Janet K. Morf, 67, of Hawkeye, died Sunday, August 7, 2016, at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 11, 2016, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye with Rev. Irving Sandberg officiating.  Interment will follow at the Hawkeye Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 10th at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye and for one hour preceding services at the church on Thursday. Memorials may be given in her name to the Hawkeye Library or Cemetery, or the Fayette County Ag Society (fairgrounds).

Janet Kay, daughter of John and Ada (Sieck) Morf, was born March 26, 1949, in Hawkeye, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye. She attended country school until 5th grade, and graduated from Sumner High School. She attended UNI in Cedar Falls where she graduated in 1971, with a BA in Early Childhood Development. She spent her entire career of forty years, teaching Kindergarten and Jr. Kindergarten at North Fayette School District in West Union and Hawkeye, loving each and every student who passed through her classroom.

Jan was currently serving on the Hawkeye Library Board, and was a charter member of the Hawkeye First Responders. She loved gardening, cooking, biking, camping and traveling. Her bus driver once told her that he knew one day she would grow up to be a veterinarian because of her deep love for animals, especially her sheep. She had an awesome sense of humor and an abundance of common sense.

Friends describe Jan as patient, kind, honest, loyal, understanding, independent, giving, loving, a wonderful counselor, and a great friend. She was always brave enough to take a stand for what she believed. She will be missed by many.

In 2010, Janet was diagnosed with cancer-she fought and won the battle-two years later she was once again diagnosed-another fight-another win. She was called home the third time.

Those left to mourn her passing are her nephews, Chris Gruver of Hawkeye and his daughters, Cassie, Jacque, Emma and Caroline, and Josh Brayton of Sumner and his son, Derek; a brother-in-law, John Kaiserlik of Hawkeye; and many friends and former students. She was well loved.

In addition to her parents, Jan was preceded in death by one brother, Jim; one sister, Carol Kaiserlik; and one brother, David who died in infancy.

There's no other compared to Jan. A good friend from the early days of the Hawkeye First Responders and through her teaching my children. Gone too soon but never forgotten. You will be missed.
Friend forever, Leon

Hawkeye has lost a stalwart citizen and friend to all, sorry to hear of her passing. Our family grew up next to the Morfs, we shared many playtime hours and days at country school.

My mom told me of Miss Morf's passing this morning and I was deeply upset. She was one of the most wonderful teachers I've ever had. She touched so many lives and instilled the love of learning in her students. May she rest in peace after her battle with cancer.

To Mike, Josh, John and Family: I am so very sad to read of Jan's passing. I recall her at the "Sieck family reunions" when we were younger. She was truly a remarkable woman, loved by many.
My Deepest Sympathy to All of you.
